Ivor Charles Oke : My Photography & NOOM ( Not one of Mine )

I have been to Asia quite often and a large number of the photographs are from this area ( Thailand, Singapore, Philippines & Indonesia ). Asia is fascinating. the people I have met, the culture, atitude, history, architecture and of course the birds. Will have to try to see Vietnam and Myanmar when the chance comes.

Onboard we would fill in Meteorological log books. the best would receive annual presentations from the UK Met office. I would enhance ours with photographs, the rest is history. What once started out as a way of improving reports and avoiding embarrasing sketches and drawings has turned into a hugely enjoyable passtime enabling me to travel a bit off the beaten track and meet some rather "special" people.
This website will be mainly birds but you might find the odd dolphin or even whale pop up as this project evolves. I do regret, albeit only slightly, not starting this earlier and not keeping a lot of my Non-bird photographs. I have also lost quite a few birds to lost & discarded photographs due to moving around quite a lot, maybe an earlier move to digital would have helped. I did like the Nikon D80 I had, old but reliable, but have now gone up a bit to the Nikon D7100 and found it a lovely camera. Still have the Sigma 50/500 lens for most bird photography but using the Sigma 18/200 a bit now. Upside is that I will have to take a lot more photographs, see a lot more places and meet more interesting people. I also hope to add some photographs of the places I have been and some of the people I have met.
Just a brief few words
I have been photographing birds and cetacean since I began sea life as a cadet with Fyffes Group Ltd., in 1972. Bascially I was pretty useless at drawing & haven't improved with age.

Now living in Phon Pisai, Thailand & enjoying the "lack of pace". I have a wonderful partner, Ekkaphon and have been readily accepted into a very wide family circle. It is sometimes a bit of a challenge such a large, new family circle all looking out for me after many years of independence and a looser knit western family circle but getting used to the life. Don't miss being at sea which I thought might be the case. It was good for a long time but I overstayed, way past "shippings sell by date" & the good times.
Phon Pisai is about as far North East as you can get from the sea without moving into Laos, and it suits me.
I am diabetic and my sugar levels have dropped quite steadily to very good levels plus my cholesterol levels have improved markedly.

Ekkaphon and "Big Baby 2" Beers Honda Cr-V, taken in October 2017 in Phetchanburi, still with the red number plates. Finally got around to adding his Honda.
Below is the home in Chum Chang, Phon Pisai. Built next door to Ekkaphons parents, Beer owns it as foreigners can't own land. Apartments Ok but Houses on land - not possible without forming a company.
There are plants all over the place and it gives a much softer feel to the place. Have added more Pitcher plants in the front lately ( Sept '17 ).
