Solenopsis Other names - ginger ants, tropical fire ants, red ants. Very nasty bite. Venom from the bite of a fire ant causes painful red bumps with, later, white pustules on the skin. It may also cause severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis which can lead to death. First aid includes external treatments of topical steroid cream and orally antihistamines. I have been bitten and it was painful.
